Mischief of Men

A project documenting skateboarding culture with a focus on masculine relationships and the bond that ties these men together.

Mischief of men is a curated group of images in a large collage format documenting the act and sub-culture of skateboarding, exploring the masculine relationships within skateboarding and why these bonds are formed. Throughout the photographs many men involved in the skateboarding culture are documented in a mostly candid way from an insider’s perspective. A quantity of small moments that display masculine relationships surround images of injuries caused by skateboarding and the art of skateboarding itself. Many of the images in this collage lean into the motif of fisheye lenses and harsh flash commonly used when photographing skateboarding, the lens forces me as a photographer to get very physically close to my subject(s) to create these images exploring masculine relationships within this culture and led me to create a deeper emotional connection with my subjects throughout the process. The collage itself has many images overlapping and blending into each other and chaotically creating one puzzle out of its’ many pieces.
